Most people break their diets due to boredom. They get tired of the limited menu and repetition of eating the same food meal after meal. Variety is the spice of life and with most diets since there is no variety there is no spice and then many resort to cheating with foods that are counterproductive. Since variety in food choice is key to sticking with a weight reduction plan, then programs like Medifast are just what we need. These plans offer variety, great tasting meals, drinks and desserts and with these choices we are less prone to cheating. Read the rest of this entry »

We know that there can be things in our water that can make us sick, things that a countertop water filter can remove, but what are these things? The Centers for Disease Control (CDC), on its website, lists over one hundred different illnesses that can be contracted from water. These illnesses are divided into the following categories: Bacterial Diseases; Parasitic Diseases; Viral Diseases, Chemical Diseases; and Other Diseases, Contaminants and Injuries. If you have young children, you might have enrolled them into a kid’s gym class. Some of these classes start when the child is one year’s old. What they learn at a young age is body awareness. Through play children are encouraged to walk a balance beam, tumble, climb stairs, hang from stationary bars, as well as do other physical activity. All to allow children to feel comfortable with their bodies, gain confidence in them, and develop their memory muscles. Teenagers who pick up a skateboard do so for the fun of it, but what they are really doing is developing balance and motor coordination skills. When the weather doesn’t allow for play on a skateboard or a surfboard, these kids continue to play but this time it’s on a balance board. A rocker-roller board like the cool Vew Do Zippy Balance Board is a great responsive board. Read the rest of this entry »

We have quite a few food allergies in our family including egg and nut allergies, so I often end up having to make our desserts and special occasion cakes. I really don’t mind since I like knowing exactly what is in the food we’re eating, plus I tend to make healthier choices on ingredients compared to the store-bought versions. Of course, I sometimes run into problems of not having the right cake pan on-hand when I want to make a specific kind of cake. One of my families favorite cakes recently was a simple ice cream cake made with a graham cracker crust. Having to use a pie pan made the cake a little smaller than I would have liked and I realized that next time I’ll make a big ice cream layer cake instead using a Commercial-Weight Kaiser LaForme Springform Pan. You’d think that with what – at times- seems like 6 months of winter (but really it’s not) it would be easier to find an abundance of outdoor bonsai’s in Canada. But strangely that is not the case. You can find junipers and if you know where to look you can find Chinese Elms which adapt quite easily to outdoor culture, even in Toronto. But finding more than an occasional and seemingly random scattering of Maples or Japanese Maples, Larch, Pine, spruce or especially any flowering fruit bonsai trees seems to just be too much to hope for. But I haven’t stopped trying and was really pleased to be able to find some Japanese Black Pine Bonsai for Canada at Zen Garden Bonsai. Read the rest of this entry »

If you’re an orange cappuccino fan, like me, you’re going to get hooked on this Orange Nutmeg Coffee Mix. By using real orange peel, there is no escaping the decidedly citrus aroma and taste. The nutmeg adds a nice warm fragrance and flavor to the coffee. Even though you can just stir this mix together, I prefer to use my blender so the mix gets nice and smooth. You might also want to tweak the sugar just a little to suit your own taste. The nutmeg is so nice, you don’t want to hide the flavor with too much sugar. You may also have your little ones drooling over your cup of coffee, so watch out! Read the rest of this entry »

My brother and I had a bet. Who could find the most beautiful crow jewelry online? You see, our mother has been collecting raven and crow jewelry her entire life, and this was going to be a very special birthday for her, her 60th. I’m happy to say that I won the bet with this glorious raven pendant from the magic zoo website. There were some other nice ones available elsewhere, but this particular example had such delicate craftsmanship that I thought it had the others beat by a mile. Read the rest of this entry »

There are two kinds of the U.S. Cavalry Sabers, namely the light and heavy kind. The light variety, as opposed to the heavy kind, was actually based on other European swords such as the Indian Talwar and was used by the British and Prussian during the battle of Waterloo. This class of saber was also made us of by the Germans and their cavalry until the 20th century. Cold Steel’s battle ready 1796 U.S. Cavalry Saber is actually a replica of the military light saber mentioned above. This flawless quality sword has a 33-inch blade with a 4 ¾-inch long handle, amounting to about 37-inches in overall length. Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve been taking a good look at some of the kitchenware in my home and considering what items might need updating or replacing. I didn’t intend to buy new items, but it all started when I began running out of cabinet storage space in my kitchen. So I started pulling pots and pans and gadgets out to figure out what I was and was not using. I found a few items that I thought I could probably sell and other items that would be good for donation. The items that bothered me the most were my plastic containers. Many had become stained from years of use and a couple of lids had gone missing for some of them. I really don’t like storing my food in plastic anymore, so I’ve decided that it’s time for me to buy a good glass food storage container set. Read the rest of this entry »

It is often difficult to think of what to give as Groomsmen Gifts for your wedding. Your groomsmen are an integral part of your groom’s pre-wedding experience and they will also chaperone your bridesmaids during the day. Giving them the perfect gift is a great way to say “Thank You” for all their work, time and attention. Groomsmen gifts tend to be more useful items, such as pint glasses, poker sets, cufflinks or watches. If you know your groomsmen very well, a more unique but still luxurious item is also appropriate to give. Personalized frames, flasks and similar gifts personalized are very popular. Larger items like luggage and tool sets are also given if they are in the couple’s price range.
Themed gifts would also be great for a strongly themed wedding. For example, for a traditional Scottish wedding, Groomsmen Gifts could be Green Plaid flasks, a beer mug with pewter emblem, or a personalized golf towel. For a beach wedding, a personalized towel and flip-flops can be a fun alternative. Regardless of your budget, great groomsmen gifts can be well-chosen to fit in with your theme and the varied personalities of all your groomsmen.

Next to the pet paw, the dog bone may be the most universal symbol of all things canine. I’ve seen a number of jewelry creations rendered in this design recently. One of my favorites is the magic zoo dog bone charm that manages to actually look graceful hanging on a charm bracelet. Imagine that, a sterling silver bone! It just goes to show that almost anything can be beautiful if it’s well made. The magic zoo artist seems to have been around forever; I used to see her at art shows in the 1990s, but she seems to have graduated to the Internet. Good for her! Read the rest of this entry »

While most of us take utmost care to make sure that we drink bottled water when we’re outside, we forget about the water we use to cook our meals everyday. A Aquasana water filter isn’t just a healthy choice. It is an important taste factor as well, when it comes to cooking. What would Thanksgiving be without a turkey? I vividly remember the first time I got to cook the entire feast by myself. We’d just moved across country and I was more than a little nervous about cooking this big bird. Thankfully I came across a perfect roasted turkey recipe and it turned out to be great. I just wish I’d realized earlier that a 13 lb turkey is a bit much for 2 people. We must have had leftovers for a month, including sandwiches, soup and casseroles all made with plenty of turkey. Balance is a moving experience. You might think holding your balance as a solid, non-moving position, but there are constant alterations and tiny movements going on in your body in order to keep your balance. Training your balance becomes vitally important as we age not only because falling becomes more likely, but because muscular imbalances become more apparent in our daily activities. As we age, there is a tendency to use our stronger sides to do average movements like getting out of a chair or car. This only contributes further to muscular imbalances. So what to do? Start right now by working out with exercise regimens that require using your balance like Yoga or Pilates and choose different exercises that you do with and without tools. Exercising without tools can be something as simple as standing on one leg or walking a straight line with your eyes closed. More substantial tools can be used like a BOSU or the Airex balance pad. There is a great range of pots made for Bonsai trees and obviously their main reason for being is to accommodate the bonsai tree and its compost. But there is a lot more to it than that. Fresh water from lakes, reservoirs, rivers and springs are the main sources of water that is delivered to our homes. This water is treated at the pumping stations, but can be re-contaminated while they are transported over pipelines for our consumption. So water must be purified through water filters to remove microorganisms, unpalatable tastes and odors before using it for drinking and cooking. Read the rest of this entry »

A sterling silver dog bone pendant is wonderfully symbolic of the human-dog connection. Worn as a token of your love for your canine companion, it silently expresses that special bond. A bone, like no other item, evokes thoughts of happily playing dogs, burying their treasures then loping over for a friendly pet. If you’re looking for something special for a dog loving friend, this pretty dog bone pendant will do quite well. Read the rest of this entry »

Do you or someone you know love to play golf? Are you a successful golfer in every aspect except for your putting? If so, this would be a great gift for a friend or yourself. This entertaining par three putting green will excite even little children looking for a challenge. You could even create a family game out of this one. When you are done take it to work and be that guy practicing in the hallway.
If you were to own this, it could substantially help your putting game. It gives you the opportunity to practice one of the hardest parts of the game. In fact, most strokes are left on the putting green. This par three putting green will give you self confidence and satisfaction needed to perform well when playing on the real course. You can find this and other golf practice equipment and practice aids at TheGolfCollection.com
It is called the par three putting green because it actually has three different holes. Using three balls see if you can sink each one into the bottom of the cup. If you happen to miss the holes, a protective sand trap at the back end of the course will prevent the golf balls from rolling all the way down the hallway or down the steps.

Laptops have come a long way. These days they are just as powerful as a desktop computer and have tons of memory. It is true that laptops are more expensive but they take up far less space and are more portable than a traditional desktop PC. Moreover, research suggests that laptops are far more reliable than desktops. The reason why laptops are more expensive than desktop computers is not, as some people think, that desktop ones are longer lasting or more reliable (surprisingly the majority of computer failures have been reported to happen on desktops), but rather is due to the fact that the laptops need to be manufactured with components that must be small to fit into a small case, and at the same time be resistant to high heat levels and reduce power consumption to a minimum. We run our business with both laptops and desktop PCs and it’s the laptops that are always in demand.
