Fresh water from lakes, reservoirs, rivers and springs are the main sources of water that is delivered to our homes. This water is treated at the pumping stations, but can be re-contaminated while they are transported over pipelines for our consumption. So water must be purified through water filters to remove microorganisms, unpalatable tastes and odors before using it for drinking and cooking.

Making water fit to drink using a water filter involves several processes to remove impurities in order of their size. A water filter usually consists of two tanks. Water to be purified is filled in the first tank. The water is slowly filtered through a complex filtering mechanism to remove any impurities. After this process, the purified water is collected in the second tank. This water is free from dissolved impurities and bacteria making it safe for our use. Bottled water is not absolutely safe as the water may get contaminated once the sealed bottle is opened. The bottle itself if not filled under clean conditions may carry disease germs that may cause waterborne diseases. So, it is always better to drink water that has been filtered.
